Handbooks, Safety, and Vaccinations
Student Handbook
Westminster College produces an official student handbook each year. The handbook covers general information for students about Westminster, the campus, the administration, campus safety, student resources, and student organizations. It also includes the Annual Security Report and the Fire Safety Right-To-Know Report. If requested, a hard copy is available at the Office of Student Life. The Office of Student Life also distributes other helpful handbooks and guidelines listed below.
Note: To view the handbooks, you will need the free Acrobat Reader plug-in. All on-campus computers have the Acrobat Reader plug-in installed.
Posting Policy
Westminster College enforces a strict posting policy for all campus and community members. For detailed guidelines about posting:
When you are ready to post your advertisements, fill out a Request to Post (RTP) form and return it to the Office of Student Life in Shaw 105.
Health Insurance
Students are encouraged to carry health and accident insurance. One such policy can be obtained through the American College Student Association. There are different options and rates available to students. Cost may vary somewhat due to the student's age. Coverage is also available for family members. The plan is brokered through Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. A premium rate example for a student 24 years of age or under is:
- Low Option Plan: $817 per year
- High Option Plan: $1150 per year
For more information, please visit ACSA or call Nathan at the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network at 801.433.1686. They work with a variety of providers and can sometimes find plans with rates even better than mentioned above if the student is in good health.
Please note that all international students and student athletes attending Westminster College are required to carry insurance coverage. Students admitted to the nursing program are required to provide evidence of health insurance coverage. All students traveling on a college trip (May Term, Retreats, Conferences, Study Abroad, etc.) must also show proof of insurance.
Vaccinations and Inoculations
Vaccinations are a concern for all colleges and universities because students living in residential communities are more susceptible to communicable diseases. Therefore, the Residence Life Office requires the following vaccinations for all students living on campus at Westminster:
- Meningococcal Tetravalent (meningitis vaccine)
- M.M.R. (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) (Two doses required - at least one month apart)
We also recommend that all (not just residential) students:
- Update your tetanus vaccination every ten years
- Get the Hepatitis A and B vaccine series
- Get the meningitis vaccine
- Get the Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine
For assistance, contact your
- Insurance provider
- Local health department
- Physician or care provider
Keep copies of all immunization records. Most inoculations are effective for five years or more. If you have questions, please contact the Dean of Students at 801.832.2230 or the Residence Life Office at 801.832.2245.
